Sales Takes Office as New HBA President
Travis
J. Sales, a partner at Baker Botts L.L.P., took office May 15th
as the new president of the Houston Bar Association. He succeeded W. Thomas
Proctor, an attorney/mediator, at the HBA's Annual Dinner Meeting at River
Oaks Country Club.
Sales has
served on the HBA board of directors since 2002, holding the offices of
president-elect, second vice president, secretary, and director. He served
as chair of the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program and as president of the
Houston Lawyer Referral Service, Inc. Sales also is a past chair of the HBA
Campaign for the Homeless Committee, the Continuing Legal Education
Committee, the Interprofessional Drug Education Alliance and the Spring
Family Event Committee, and he was co-chair of the Administration of Justice
Committee. He is a member of the International Association of Defense
Counsel, served on the editorial board of the Texas Bar Journal, and
was twice named a “Texas Super Lawyer” by Texas Monthly and Law
and Politics.

HBA Annual Dinner, May 15th
The 2008 Annual Dinner Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 15, at River Oaks Country Club at 7:00 p.m. Travis J. Sales of
Baker Botts L.L.P. will become the new president of the Houston Bar Association, succeeding Tommy Proctor of W. Thomas Proctor, P.C.
Proctor will present the President’s Awards to outstanding committee and program chairs, and the HBA will recognize its members
who have reached their 50th year of law practice.
Tickets are $100 per person. Tables of eight or 10 are available. No tickets are sold at the door and seating is limited. Please

Volunteers Needed for Habitat House Build
The Habitat for Humanity Committee is looking for volunteers who would like to work on the 10th and 11th HBA Habitat homes this spring.
The rain date, replacing an original date that was rained out, will be this
Saturday, May 10th. To volunteer for the re-scheduled build date, send your contact information to

speak to volunteer attorneys who will answer legal questions, give brief legal advice or refer the caller to resources for help.

5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

HBA Gender Fairness Luncheon Series, May 22
The HBA Gender Fairness Luncheon Series will present a program on Thursday, May 22, 2008 in the Attorney Ready Room at the Harris
County Civil Courthouse, 201 Caroline, 8th Floor. The subject will be "Is Justice Gender Blind?" and will feature a panel comprised
of Justice Jane Bland, Judge Bonnie Hellums, Judge Tracy Christopher, and jury consultant Susan Pennebaker. There is no cost to
attend the program, but attendance is limited to 80. Lunch will be provided. All RSVPs are required by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 16.
